National Environmental Standards for Commercial Forestry
Preparing for the next Cyclone Gabrielle
Widescale pine planting in Tairāwhiti followed Cyclone Bola in 1988, as it was realised that much of the land should never have been cleared of native
trees for farming in the first place…
Good Practice Guideline for Catchment Management
The forestry industry in Tairāwhiti continues to look at a range of solutions and ways to improve the management our forests and land, and our Good Practise Guideline for Catchment Management bringing together current best practice and science aims to provide a ready guide for practitioners. The guideline is not compulsory, nor is EWC membership in the region.
One of our key priorities is the protection of the environment. We have our eyes on the future, and the forestry industry is working with local and central government and other stakeholders including Iwi, to find preventative solutions that work for the entire region. We are actively meeting with interested parties to talk about options that have a proven impact on issues such as woody debris and look forward to ongoing collaboration.
